October Tie Binder Newsletter

Trunk or Treat
Our upcoming Trunk or Treat, in collaboration with Kettering Pride and David’s UCC, will be held on Saturday, October 24th from 5-7pm. If you’re interested in supporting the event (and we hope you are!), there are two ways you can: volunteer to sit with your car and pass out candy to our guests (and dress up and decorate your car if you really want to have fun!), and/or donate candy to be passed out by someone else. Trunk or Treat is an excellent opportunity to help keep kids safe, meet and collaborate with members of our community, and share the light of the Lord with our smiles and warmth.
CROP Walk
On October 11 the Dayton area is holding its annual CROP Walk and DLABC is participating.
There are several ways you can support this ministry:
Make donations in envelopes marked CROP Walk. You can write checks to DLABC and these will be forwarded to the Treasurer of the event.
Collect contributions from friends, family, co workers and put those in envelopes found on Usher’s Table. All of these envelopes need to be in possession of Chuck Longo by October 11 as he will transport these to the walk for DLABC.
Anyone who wants to walk can meet at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Church at Main and Philadelphia on Oct. 11 and join others in the area to walk.
Pray for those participating and organizing this event.
Thank you for your support. 25% of all funds received in the Dayton event will stay in our community and are donated to Dayton FoodBank.
Happy Birthday, Dear Lois!
On Friday, October 2 Lois Perry will be celebrating her 94th birthday. Anyone who wants to join is welcome. We have arranged a little party at her home at 3:00 p.m. To carpool (parking is limited) we will meet at 2:30 and go to her home. Parking is also available in the next block at a shopping center. Please send her a card as she would appreciate hearing from us!
Dayton Christian Center Requests
We have received a list of items needed by Dayton Christian Center (which we support). If you can donate any of these items please indicated on the list on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. Items can be placed in the box found in Fellowship Hall. We need to have these by November 15 as some are to be used as Christmas gifts. Below is a list of some of the items:
Christmas needs: 2 cars, 2 dolls, 2 games/toys, 2 Bibles
Disposable items (cups, plates, tablecloths, napkins, silverware, bags)
Sports needs: basketball, football
School Supplies
Toiletries
Miscellaneous: mittens, quilt or comforter, diapers
Alliance Stamp Ministry
We continue to send cancelled used stamps to Fort Myers, Florida where a group prepares them to be resold and raise funds for Spanish language curriculum. All stamps can be placed in bin in our Giving Center. They are working on their second million raised since inception in 1972.
Used Eyeglasses
We collect used eyeglasses and donate them to Lions Club of America to be reused by people who minister to those who are in need of glasses. Place them in the bin in our Giving Center.
Who is Rovaughna Richardson?
Rovaughna was commissioned an American Baptist missionary in 2016 and sent to Ghana. She grew up in the Dayton area and attended Corinthian Baptist Church. She received her master of Arts from Bowling Green State University. She is a professional social worker and therapist. She began her mission interest after several short-term trips to Jamaica. Her commitment to service deepened over time and led to her transition from social worker and therapist to a dedicated global work.
In Ghana, she worked at the Baptist Vocational Training Center working with young girls who were trokosi survivors. Yes, slavery still exists. Young girls are taken from their families to pay debts to temple officials. She and her group arrange for their freedom and reentry to society. They now can offer scholarships and retraining and safety.
After seven years as an American Baptist Missionary, she founded Esteem Resources of Africa. This is a non-profit /501 launched in 2022. She has continued her journey with girls of Ghana and opened the POINT (Place of Inspiration New Beginnings and Transformation) in Accra which houses SEW ( Sowing Empowered Women) – a short-term crisis shelter and a peaceful place for meals and rest. They can join SEW Workshops which help them in learning new skills and gives them hope.
You can support Rovoughna’s mission work by:
Joining in prayer for their work
Give gifts of support: checks payable to Esteem Resources African and write on memo line Mission Support. Mail to Esteem Resources Africa, 8815 Oxfordshire Ct., Huntersville, NC 28078
