Thanks to all who donated pull tabs for the pull-a-looza! On May 16 we turned in 5.17 pounds. Next year our goal will be 6 pounds! Next May 17, 2027, will be the next collection for Ronald McDonald House. You can put your tabs in the bin in our "Giving Center".

Also, thanks for donated used glasses. 40 pairs were donated for Lions International Eyeglass collection. We also have used printer cartridges which I have not gotten to Staples yet but will.

A garbage bag was filled with amber plastic pill bottles and donated to Matthew 25 Ministries. Remember we also collect cancelled postage stamps and send them to a Florida retirement home that uses them for funds for Spanish speaking Sunday School material. Finally, we collect books (paperback and hard copies) for the Dayton Right to Read group. We recycle plastic bottles and soda cans. We try to be good stewards by having items reused.

Check out our "Giving Center" to see what we collect. Thanks.

Need a good book to read? In honor of Mother's Day, books in the Lobby Collection are

books about women. We have Bad Girls in the Bible, bibliographies plus many historical fiction about Bible women.

Diaconate Mission and Caring

Many events were organized and sponsored by DLABC and many volunteer members, from March to May.

1. Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday March 2 This was a wonderful event, with roughly 100

attending including parents and children. The weather was almost perfect, and it was the right size for participants and DLABC organizers. DLABC members spent many hours to stuff several thousand eggs, in the week prior. It was rewarding to see participants of many backgrounds and even religions attending.

2. Easter week. Celebrations of Maundy Thursday occurred on Thursday Apr 2 with about 15-20 participants. The meal was simple with soups and breads, and Jeff performed ritual cleaning of hands or feet which is what Jesus did on his last supper. Other wonderful events included Sunrise service and breakfast, and an inspiring service at 11 am including with the choir singing.

3. Monthly firepit Fellowship – Friday Apr 17 and May 15. About 15 people participated including about 5 from First Baptist downtown on Apr 17. It is a wonderful time to meditate, and enjoy the camaraderie of free-flowing conversations. There is nothing better to soothe the soul than to look and watch at the mysteries of fire, in a dance that goes back to the dawns of time and civilization. And the firepit food is good and enjoyable.

4. Joseph Chato memorial service; Saturday Apr 25. Pastor Jeff was asked to provide a graveside memorial for Joseph Chato, age 62, who was a youth member in the church in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Some DLABC members from that time remember him and his family attending. A link for his obituary and a website for condolences is provided following. https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/oh/dayton/joseph-chato-21240120

5. May Day Celebration, 1 May. Many DLABC members volunteered for setup from 9-5 pm,and the event was held from 5-7 pm. This event is co-sponsored by Kettering Pride. DLABC helped to cook and serve hot dogs, donated by Kettering Pride. May Day celebrations can be quite large in European nations.

Worship and Christian Ed

Seven Sundays of Easter

The Easter season (Eastertide) lasts for 50 days, beginning on Easter Sunday and concluding on the 50th day, which is Pentecost Sunday. This year Pentecost falls on May 24th.

Pentecost Sunday is one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar. It celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ.

The Birth of the Church: It marks the official beginning of the Christian Church and its global mission.

Empowerment: The Holy Spirit gave the Apostles the courage and ability to preach the Gospel in different languages.

Fulfilled Promise: It fulfills Jesus's promise to send an "Advocate" or "Helper" after his ascension into heaven.

Bible Presentation

It seems only fitting that we presented to our children age appropriate Bibles on Pentecost Sunday. We hope that these Bibles encourage them to walk with Jesus and build on the foundations that have already been laid in their homes and in Kid’s Connection.

Kid’s Connection

May 31 will be our last Kid’s Connection until late August. Kids will need to remain in the

sanctuary with their adults throughout the service. We will have special Children’s Bulletins available for them.

Revelation Revelations

The Adult Sunday School class, “A Progressive Look at Revelation” will conclude on May 31. We have learned so much as we have read the Book of Revelations and discussed it under Pastor Jeff’s guidance. There will be no Adult Sunday School during the summer, but will resume in September. If you have any topics or books you would like to study in the fall please let Pastor Jeff or someone on the Christian Education Board know.

Visit to Woodland Cemetery MausoleumOn Sunday, May 17, a group of us visited the Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum to view the beautiful stained glass windows there, especially “The Messiah”, the focal point of the Chapel in the Mausoleum. It was magnificent! “The inspiration for this window comes from the 19th chapter of the Book of Revelations. Jesus is enthroned on a rainbow, surrounded by angels and the 24 elders. From his feet runs the river of the water of life, past the seven golden

candlesticks, to the Lamb standing on the Book of Seals. On the sides at the bottom are the four Evangelical beasts — The winged man for Matthew, the winged lion for Mark, the winged ox for Luke and the eagle for John. Above the two beasts on the left is Christ crucified, and on the right are three women greeted at the empty tomb by the angel with His message of Resurrection.” (Text from the brochure The Windows of Woodland.) The mausoleum is open 365 days a year during regular business hours. We encourage you to drop in sometime to see these beautiful windows. After our tour we enjoyed a delicious meal together at Milanos.

Trustees

The trustees have a few projects in the works at the church...

First, we are reworking the cross out front. An area in the corner room in the basement is where we are painting the wood piece. The first coat of primer has been done on one side of all pieces. The second coat will be done Tuesday afternoon. After that we will do 2 coats of white. We decided on white to make the cross stand out and be visible from the road.

Second, we are reconstructing the unisex bathroom upstairs. I worked on finishing the first coat of spackling. I will sand that coat and prep for the second coat on Thursday afternoon.

If anyone is interested in helping or getting involved, let me know and I can add you to the trustees text list with myself, Edmund, Brian Sinks ,Chuck and Brian Wood.
