November 2024 Tie Binder Newsletter

Our Christmas event, Mrs. Claus's Curated Collection of Christmas Craziness and Bazaar, will be held on December 6th and 7th. More information is forthcoming, but in preparation for the event, there are many things you can help with, if you are so inclined. Here are some ways to get involved:

  • cut out paper snowflakes with white paper (we can provide)

  • donate snacks to concession stand

  • donate old scrapbooking materials (card stock, tape, glue sticks, etc.)

  • donate face-painting materials (paints, brushes)

  • donate christmas wrapping paper and bows (old or new rolls)

  • donate an item (basket) for raffle

  • volunteer to cook for and/or serve at our concession stand

  • volunteer to work at any of the variety of events (bazaar, Parents' Night Out, pictures with Mrs. Claus, concessions, Self-Guided Prayer Tour, etc.)

  • let us borrow any carnival type games you have

  • let us borrow a Mrs. Claus costume

If you're interested and available to do one (or more!) of these things, please let Michael know at your earliest convenience on a Sunday morning or by email, misterwadham@gmail.com.

Sunday School Class at DLABC for December 2024

The first four Sundays in December at DLABC you will have the opportunity to study the book The Purpose of Christmas by Rick Warren. Rev. Warren is author of The Purpose Driven Life and The Purpose Driven Church. Copies are available to all participants (for $4 or check with Connie Sinks for a free copy).

Have you wondered about what the purpose of Christmas is? Rev. Warren suggests a time of celebration, a time for salvation and a time for reconciliation. We will look carefully at Luke 2:8-14. Is this a time of “great joy” for you? For many it is a time of stress. Let us look carefully at this season as it is more than a day of the year.

Understanding and receiving God’s Christmas gifts to you will transform your life...forever!

ABWM News

Donations for White Cross Requests for Dayton Christian Center need to be brought to Fellowship Hall by November 15. If you did not sign up, you can still make monetary donations to Treasurer, Judy Teeters.

At our October meeting, we prepared 100 bags of candy with ghost lollipops for our trunk or treat event. Thanks to Flo Smith-Heizer for organizing our project and sharing devotions. We will not be meeting in November but will help with the December bazaar/sale of our already created items.

We will meet on Dec. 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Judy Teeters’ home. Joyce Kelley will be the co host and give devotions. We will have a white elephant gift exchange. Also, bring 3 wrapped gifts for shut ins. Our Christmas Service project will be collecting socks for all ages....white for men and women, for children a variety of sizes and colors.

CROP WALK Thank you to all who contributed to Church World Service CROP WALK event held on October 13. We had $350 donated. The Dayton Food Bank will receive over $80 of that amount. Particular thanks to Ernie Keucher, Joyce Kelley and Megan Farnham for helping with coordination of this effort.

Christian Education

Our first annual Trunk or Treat in collaboration with Kettering Pride Collation was amazing! We estimate that around 500 people came. The parking lot was packed, and we had a constant flow of families trick or treating, Access to Excess set up tables of free produce. There were crafts, hotdogs, chips, and drinks. Thank you so much to everyone who came to help, who spread the word about the event, and who donated candy.

From the Nominating Committee

As the New Year approaches, we are putting together the proposed boards and committees for 2025. This will be reviewed and voted on at the annual meeting. If you are interested in joining a board at DLABC, please see Connie Sinks, Tim Haugan, or Edmund Sasak. The boards we have include: Diaconate Worship, Diaconate Missions and Caring, Christian Education, and the board of Trustees. Committees include Stewardship/Finance, Pastoral Relations, Nominating, and Ushers. If you are already on a board or committee, please see Connie to verify whether you are willing to continue serving next year.

Men’s Fellowship

The men’s fellowship meets for lunch at 11:00 am on the 2nd Friday of the month, at the Bob Evans on the corner of Linden and Woodman. It’s a wonderful time to meet and discuss, and Pastor Bob Heizer gives heartfelt prayers for all. It’s a blessing Bob is sharing his pastoral gifts for the Men’s Fellowship. All are welcome to join.

Diaconate Worship BoardDABA Fall Gathering

Dear Dayton Area Baptist Association Churches and Friends,

We are excited to be holding our DABA Fall Gathering again for the first time since the pandemic! Attached is a flier you can use to promote the event with your congregation, and we hope you will include an announcement in your services and communications in the coming weeks to encourage people to come.

The Fall Gathering will be held Sunday evening, November 3, at First Baptist Church, 111 West Monument Ave, Dayton, 45402 (parking entrance 15 W Monument Ave). There will be a carry-in dinner in the upstairs dining hall at 5:00 PM (doors will be open by 4:00) with chicken provided by First Baptist, and everyone is encouraged to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share. (DLABC is bringing drinks.) After dinner at about 6:00 PM we will begin a worship service in the sanctuary. Pastor Joshua Ward from Omega Baptist Church will be preaching, and there will be some great music as well as updates from our churches and denominational leaders.

Please plan to join us and encourage others to come as well. We look forward to renewing our fellowship in this meaningful way!

Upcoming Dates from the Diaconate Worship Board

Advent and Christmas will be here soon, so here are some dates to put on your calendar.

The Diaconate Worship Board will be taking orders for Christmas Poinsettias as soon as we get the pricing from the florist. Watch for inserts in the bulletin and church emails for more information. The poinsettias will decorate the sanctuary on December 21 and Christmas Eve.

November 24 we will be handing out our Advent Devotionals “Emerge into Great Joy”. There are daily scripture readings, devotions, and reflections for each day of Advent. If you are unable to pick one up in person, please call or email the church office and we will send you one.

December 1 is the First Sunday of Advent and Communion Sunday. Megan and Sam will be lighting the first Advent Candle, the candle of Hope. Following the worship service we will be decorating the church for the Christmas season. All are invited to stay and help. Hanging of the Greens is always a special time to get in the spirit of Christmas.

December 6 and 7 the church family and the community are invited to Mrs. Claus' Curated Collection of Christmas Craziness and Bazaar. See the separate post about it. There will be something for everyone to enjoy! Food, crafts, carols, gift wrapping, Parents Night Out, and more.

December 8 is the Second Sunday of Advent. The Sinks Family will be lighting the Peace Candle.

December 15 is the Third Sunday of Advent. Michael Wadham will be lighting the candle for Joy.

December 22 is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. We will be lighting the candle for Love.

Tuesday, December 24 at 7 pm we will celebrate Christmas Eve with our Candlelight Service. This is always a special service and one of our congregation’s favorites. There will be light refreshments after the service.

January 5, after worship we will take down and put away Christmas. Please consider helping if you can.

May God bless you with Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love this Advent Season!

2025 Stewardship Season

The season of stewardship is upon us now, and in the weeks ahead we urge you to prayerfully consider to offer pledges of giving for the coming year 2025. Pledge sheets will be provided starting Nov 3 at the church. And November 17 will be the dedication of pledges, when we will offer our gifts to God. After church on November 24, our Thanksgiving dinner and Annual Meeting to review and approve the 2024 budget is scheduled, and vote on nominations to the boards and officers.

7”Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2nd Corinthians Ch. 9, NIV

It is a great praise that the congregation continues to be so generous this year, for both regular giving and special offerings. We hope all can continue the joy to be a ‘heart-giver’!
